In the Studio: Winter 2022/2023

Over the winter I started playing with abstract designs. Working small (just 4" x 4" each) allowed me to explore, focusing on two of my favorite aspects of art - shape and color. When beginning each piece, I knew which three colors would be used and I had an idea of the type of shapes and lines I wanted to play with...then I would wing it. Most interesting for me was seeing how the final piece emerged as it developed. Though I might start out with a very clear picture of what I expected it to be, they often took on a life of their own. The outlines were sketched out on a grid, in precise lines; however, the color choices I made along the way decided the final shapes. With each new piece, a life lesson emerged: it's all well and good to set out a straight and precise path... but letting yourself do what feels right in the moment results in a more satisfying picture than originally planned for.

These little experiments are available for purchase in my on-line shop. As of writing, there are 18; I intend to continue playing with them and will add new pieces from time to time. They would be fun in small frames or large, matted out for drama. Several hung together in a group would be a great pop of color as well!
